Of the six posh lodging options that make up the famed Canyons resort — an alpine wonderland in the Wasatch Mountains on the south side of Park City — the Grand Summit functions as the social and geographical hub.

It's larger than the other properties, and its accommodations include a staggering variety of layouts and sizes, from relatively standard hotel rooms to three-bedroom suites and cushy penthouses outfitted with full kitchens.

The Grand Summit retains an upscale, if a tad over-the-top, mountain aesthetic. Most suites have balconies, gas fireplaces and two-person Jacuzzi tubs. The hotel's size and centrality are a plus if you enjoy the buzz of a vibrant, active resort — the year-round heated pool sits in the center of the action. The Grand Summit's pitch-roofed wings surround it, and the main driveway, like a horseshoe.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in all seasons around Park City.
From the soaring three-story lobby, with its leather armchairs and rustic chandeliers, you're steps from the top dining options at the Canyons; there is also a general store, a coffeehouse and several bars and lounges. You can access the spa and health club without leaving the building. The drawback, of course, is that during busy times the Grand Summit hums with human activity — it's the most popular of the resort's hotels for those attending conventions.

Fortunately, nature is right outside the door. During the warmer months it's almost impossible to run out of enticing diversions, some of them on-site (hiking, biking) and others within a short shuttle drive (horseback, golf).
